Update on Anaiya

Anaiya had her first doctor’s appointment today.  Everything is well.

Feeding/Sleeping

Anaiya has been regularly feeding about every 3 hours.  Over the last 24 hours, she seems to want to eat more during the day and less at night, which is good for us.  The biggest issue we are having is that she falls asleep while nursing and we cannot wake her up.  This makes sense to us since Reena and I can basically fall asleep anywhere, anytime, and once I am asleep, it is very difficult to wake me up.  Also, Anaiya sleeps with her mouth open, so at least she has one of my physical traits (hopefully that’s it).

Weight

Anaiya’s birth weight was 6 lbs, 12 oz.  On Sunday, it dropped to 6 lbs, 10 oz, and on Monday it again dropped to 6 lbs, 8.2 oz.  It is typical for a newborn to lose up to 7% of her weight, so the loss of 3.8 oz. was well within the norm.  We were hoping that the weight loss would stop there, and today we found out her weight increased back to 6 lbs, 10 oz., so we were stoked.

Height

Anaiya’s birth height was 20 inches, but this included her conehead (which was due to the natural delivery).  Over the first few days after birth, the conehead largely subsided, so we figured her height would decrease by at least an inch.  We were happy to hear today that she only lost .25 inches, so she now stands (or lies) at 19.75 inches.
